March 2007 - Adam Pounds Forms the Orchestra of Great St. Mary's
The Orchestra of Great St. Mary’s was formed in March 2007 by its conductor Adam Pounds. It comprises of about fifty players drawn from Cambridge and surrounding areas and from London. The repertoire is very varied and has included work from the Baroque era to the 20th century. Highlights have included memorable performances of works by Brahms and Dvorak and its inclusion in the ‘Berkeley and Friends’ festival held in the summer 2008 where the orchestra performed such pieces as Berkeley’s ‘Sinfonietta’ and the Organ Concerto by Poulenc. The Orchestra is developing well and it will be giving the second performance of ‘The Martyrdom of Latimer’ by Pounds in March 2010 and has plans to perform Shostakovich’s tenth symphony in June.
